Although a
native of Massachusetts, Pegi Newton has spent most of her life in the Carolinas. While she lives in the
“Upstate,” over the years, Pegi has come to love the Carolina coast, with its marshes and beaches, and many of
her paintings reflect that feeling. She began painting several years ago when she enrolled
in an oil/acrylic class at a local college hoping that it would be helpful with craft painting for her church bazaar.
It accomplished the immediate goal and was the beginning of a love affair with painting that has steadily grown.
Almost as much as Pegi loves to paint, she loves to travel, and attending
workshops has allowed her to visit to some pretty special places. Recent workshop locations include California, New Mexico,
Maine, Scotland, Ireland Italy, France, Greece and Peru. She traveled to Newfoundland as an Artist-in-Residence
at Pouch Cove in June 2005. These workshops and many others closer to home have allowed her to study with a number of well-known artists –
Stephen Quiller, Tony Couch, Frank Webb, Cheng Kee Chee, Tom Lynch, Eric Weigardt, Margaret Martin, Judy Morris, Betty Carr, Charles
Reid, Don Andrews and Bill Jameson . She has also studied with some very talented local artists, Jo Ann
Taylor, Julia Peters and Glen Miller.
Pegi is a member of the
Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville where many of her works are exhibited. She has been a member of Upstate
Visual Arts for many years and has regularly exhibited her watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings in Art in the Park and the
holiday shows. In addition, many of her works were on display the first three months of 2006 at The Blood
Connection in Greenville. She regularly paints with the Monday Night Painters and a local plein air group
and participates in shows whenever these groups are exhibiting. Pegi’s paintings are in collections
throughout the southeast United States as well as England.aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Pegi lives in Greenville, South Carolina and when
not attending workshops, she enjoys traveling to visit her daughters and their families in Virginia and Ohio.
